The centre offers programmes that lead to the QQI accredited Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture 5M20454 and the QQI accredited Level 6 Certificate in Farming 6S20487 awards i.e. what is commonly known as "The Green Cert".

Programmes at Farm Ed are delivered by professionally qualified tutors who have many years of practice in their chosen area of expertise. Skills demonstration development and assessment activity is supported by state-of-the-art on-farm facilities and resources.

Programmes are scheduled on Wednesday evenings and Saturdays.

Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture (5M20454)

This QQI-accredited program serves as an introductory training for aspiring young individuals looking to pursue a career in farming. It is designed to cater to those who are interested in seeking employment opportunities within the agricultural sector. The programme explores on-farm-related legislation, regulations and EU directives. It provides in-depth knowledge of on-farm operational best practice.

The programme has a specific emphasis on health and safety, sustainable farming, biodiversity, innovation and on how agriculture impacts and moulds the environment. Programme modules are delivered by suitably qualified and experienced tutors, each with the capacity to reflect their experience of practice in the sector, as the programme progresses.

Achieving this Level 5 award provides access to the Level 6 Farming (6S20487) programme. Farmers who have achieved both awards gain access to significant Revenue and DAFM schemes.

The following modules must be successfully completed in order to achieve the Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture (5M20454) award.

Entry Requirements:

  • Aptitude: Applicants must have a motivation to learn, an interest in the subject and the ability to acquire the knowledge, skills and competencies set out in the course.
  • Previous Experience: Applicants must be able to demonstrate a broad range of knowledge, skills and competence associated with Level 4 of the NFQ (National Framework of Qualifications) relevant to the course and be able to exercise initiative and independence when carrying out course activities.
  • Applicants must hold Category W Learner Driving Permit. ( Tractor License )
  • Applicants will be required to complete an Application Form and take an interview.

Level 6 Certificate in Farming (6S20487)

This QQI-accredited program provides participants the opportunity to gain the knowledge, skill and competence to understand the process of farm property transfer, key farm management systems, sustainable farming practices and to apply technical knowledge and techniques in farm business planning and farm performance measurement.

Programme modules are delivered by suitably qualified and experienced tutors, each with the capacity to reflect their experience of practice in the sector, as the programme progresses.

Achieving this Level 6 Farming (6S20487) award, in combination with the Level 5 Agriculture (5M20454) award, gives farmers access to significant Revenue and DAFM schemes.

The following modules must be successfully completed in order to achieve the Level 6 Certificate in Farming (6S20487) award.
